Two Stelliums in the Natal Chart

April 4th, 2017

Salon-SistersA stellium occurs when you have 3 or more planets conjunct (grouped together) in one sign. They usually need to be within 10 degrees, but sometimes you can feel them as a stellium beyond that, especially if it’s more than 3 planets in that sign. In the old school days, a stellium was 4 or more planets conjunct, but in more modern times, 3 is now considered as well (though some old schoolers still insist on at least 4).

When you have a stellium, that’s a tremendous amount of energy being funnelled into one part of your chart, into one sign and one house. This sign and house gets a lot more of your energy, and can be a specific focus in your life, for better or for worse. It can be a bright spot for you and you manage the energy well. Or it can be a difficulty and you struggle with the intensity.

Having two stelliums doesn’t happen too often, but this can make for a very dynamic chart. You now have TWO different areas of tremendous energy in your chart, and it may seem like everything else in your life pales in comparison to these two areas. They suck up all of the energy because we’re talking about at least 6 planets in just two signs and houses, more than half of your natal planets.

How you manage the two stelliums usually depends on the aspect they make to one another. If the two stelliums are sextile, semisextile, or trine – the easy aspects – that can make it easier to manage the two different energies, and you can find a way to make them work together, or at least co-exist in some harmony. You can turn your two stelliums into a something productive and helpful for your life, and this can play out personally or professionally, depending on the signs and houses involved.

If your two stelliums are square, opposite, or quincunx – the hard aspects – that can make it much more difficult to manage. It can seem like the two stelliums are competing against one another for your attention and focus rather than working together, and at times, you can feel pulled in two different directions in your life. The energy becomes difficult to make come together, and you have to work harder to manage the two stelliums. You may not be able to make them work together, but instead, have to find a way to give them equal attention, equal space in your life, and not let them try to dominate each other. It’s a hard balance to achieve, but if you can do that, you can turn the energy around and make them a positive for you. But you may need to accept that you’ll always have these competing energies in your life, and always feel some strain of being pulled in two different directions. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you don’t let it stress you out. Stress is often a great difficulty for people with two stelliums at a hard aspect.

Do remember that if they square, they’re still in the same sign quality, and likely in the same house type, so you can use that common thread to find a way to manage them. If they’re opposite, opposing signs and houses are along the same axis, giving you the opportunity to find common ground. If they’re quincunx, this can seem the most different since they’re not of the same element or quality, and usually not the same house type either, so you may need to just let them be on their own.
