Grand Trines and Kites

August 30th, 2014

File:Kite.pngWhen people see a trine in their chart, it usually makes them quite happy. We’re made to believe that trines are a positive aspect, so if you have a Grand Trine, which consists of 3 planets, the Ascendant, or Midheaven in the same element (fire, earth, air, water) that are trine one another (120 degrees apart), then your life is going to be super swell, right? Well, not exactly. While a trine is considered a beneficial aspect, it can also be a lazy one. It doesn’t drive you in the same way as a square or opposition, or even fellow beneficial aspect the sextile. Having a Grand Trine can just amplify the laziness, the lack of urgency, and the indulgence. It’s easy to miss out on the positive energy of a Grand Trine because of this, and people with Grand Trines (or a lot of trines in their chart) usually lack any and all motivation when young. Go by the element your Grand Trine falls in:

Fire – You’ve got a lot of energy to burn with a Fire Grand Trine. You want to do a lot, go everywhere, see everything. The flipside is that you can be cocky, have unrealistic goals, and a passionate side that can easily turn into a short temper.

Earth – You want to stay as you are and don’t see the point in shaking things up with an Earth Grand Trine. You take things slow, too slow sometimes, and can get too stuck. You need to  be more flexible and try to balance your love of comfort with necessary changes.

Air – You’re a social butterfly and your mind doesn’t stop with an Air Grand Trine. Your mind can be your greatest asset, but also your biggest liability if you don’t get some control over it. You have mental energy, but lack physical energy.

Water – You’re guided by your feelings with a Water Grand Trine. You experience everything through the lens of your feelings, which can make you sensitive and intuitive, but also an emotional mess at times, and you’re hurt too easily by others.

A Kite occurs when a planet opposes one of the 3 planets in the Grand Trine and sextiles the other two planets.  The fourth planet brings some spice to the Grand Trine, and can help give the energy of the Grand Trine focus and drive. The laziness that can be prevalent with a Grand Trine goes away with a Kite because you now have something to use the energy toward. You have to work on resolving the issues that the opposition brings, and often, once you do that, you unlock the great potential of the Grand Trine. But it’s not as easy as 1-2-3, focus on that opposition planet and you’re all set. While squares are internal, oppositions are external, and how the energy manifests isn’t always in your control. You have to pay attention to when the universe is trying to get your attention by throwing situations and people your way (especially if you find yourself in similar situations or with similar people repeatedly).
