Ongoing Transits of Malefic Planets in Vedic Astrology

November 16th, 2012

The Vedic astrology recognizes nine planets for predictive purposes, namely, the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Rahu (the North Node of the Moon) and Ketu (the South Node of the Moon). Of these, five planets, namely, the Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu are categorized as natural malefic in view of their potential to cause struggle or hardness in mundane affairs. It may make one to ponder as to how the Sun could be a natural malefic when it is a primary source of universal energy and life-giver.

The spirit of inquiry is understandable. The phenomenon can be explained by saying that while causing good to humanity, the same Sun has a potential to bring up things one may not like. For example, there are plants and insects which are poisonous. But on the whole, the Sun has a beneficial potential and it would be correct to categorize it as both a natural benefic and natural malefic. Remaining four planets are designated as natural malefic because they generally have a potential to give one which one may not like.

All beings including human beings look for happiness in the world through senses. The happiness they are able to have from worldly objects is only a feeling because it does not stay for long. The natural malefic planets are the cosmic agents of Supreme Power to generally having potential to cause irritation, disruption, violence, separations and frustration so that one reaches a conclusion that the kind of permanent happiness sought for is not available in worldly pursuits. This can in certain deserving cases pave the way for search of the permanent source of happiness which is in the Supreme Power regulating the universes, known as God. But since human beings are naturally inclined to the world where permanent happiness does not exist, in spite of separations and frustrations engineered by natural malefic planets, they mostly still go on looking for the happiness in the world. But the point here is that the natural malefic planets influence the earth on the assigned lines generally of causing struggle, separations, uncertainties, violence and the like.

As per Vedic astrology, a planet influences the other planet in houses 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12. The quantum of influence varies from house to house. It is quite substantial in houses 1, 2 and 12. Even the passage of a planet through a house may be in the beginning, in the middle or at the end of a sign. This leaves the houses 3, 6, and 11 where it can be said that a planet does not influence the other specifically. That would go to show that a malefic planet is better placed in these houses from the Moon, both natal or the current. The other way of codifying this planetary configuration is that the malefic planets in 3, 6 and 11 houses from the Moon would give way to beneficial influences.

During the coming year 2013 , major slow-malefic planets Rahu and Saturn would be passing through sign Libra of sidereal zodiac. These would be in 3, 6 and 11 position respectively from signs Leo, Taurus and Sagittarius. The other planets Sun and Mars move faster and as such, their transits could play a secondary role generally. Further, it may be mentioned here that slow-moving natural benefic planet Jupiter would be passing through Gemini of sidereal zodiac from the month of June, 2013 onward for a year which would also be favorable from the aforesaid signs, namely, Taurus, Leo and Sagittarius. In view these transits, the second half of 2013 extending to first some months of 2014 is suggestive of favorable results in particular for those whose natal Moon was in signs Taurus, Leo and Sagittarius. The aspects of life which could come under such favorable influences are money, marriage, profession, relief from ailments and success in general. This could be more so if operative periods as per Vimshottari system followed in the Vedic astrology are also not adverse.
