If Saturn is limitation and contraction, then Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter, is expansion in all its many forms. Sagittarius manifests the energy of abundance, open-mindedness and generosity. It prompts us to travel, to study, to seek out different perspectives and explore new ideas. So what happens when serious, committed and sometimes downright heavy Saturn joins with this expansive Sagittarian energy? Well it all depends on you…
In traditional astrology Saturn is referred to as the Great Teacher because when it moves in your life you will have to submit to some kind of structure or discipline, whether you like it or not! How you respond to this seeming imposition has everything to do with how you will experience it. If you resist and struggle, then chances are you’ll come out the worse for it, just as the rebellious kids at school did. But if you allow the energy of Saturn to mould your life into a more systemised, ordered and organised reality you may find that Saturn’s lessons are not so difficult to learn after all.
With Saturn in Sagittarius there’s likely to be a curbing of decadence, over-indulgence and excess. If you’ve been over-doing things, taking on too much work, promising more than they can deliver, running away from responsibility, indulging in a little too much hedonism or in any way spreading themselves too thinly, you’ll probably experience Saturn’s energy as a quiet impulse to restrain yourself, to rein yourself in. If you don’t listen to this inner voice Saturn may manifest itself as external circumstance. Something will happen that will force you to create more of a balance in your life, and this may not be pleasant. Better to listen to your intuitive guidance!
For such a person Saturn in Sagittarius can bring the gifts of order and stability, commitment and perseverance to balance Jupiter’s generosity, adventure and exploration. You may have to say no to that year-long round-the-world back-packing trip but the hard work you do on that project back home will pay good dividends in the end.
On the other hand, if you’re a person who already finds it difficult to express Sagittarian energy, you might find that Saturn’s journey through this sign feels oppressive. If you find the idea of travel scary, no longer need to explore because you’re confident you know the truth, or tend towards introversion, Saturn may take you to the extreme of contraction in order to force you out of yourself. Over the next two and a half years you may find yourself feeling more and more trapped as you go over and over the same ground. Eventually, probably towards the end of the transit, the sense of claustrophobia may push you to look outside yourself, to grow and explore.
You can gain more insight into how the Saturn in Sagittarius transit will affect you personally by looking to see which house it’s passing through. This will tell you the area of your life that will be most affected. For example in my own chart Saturn is passing through the 6th house, prompting me to give up indulging in rich food and alcohol for the sake of my health.
The dynamics of astrology work to realign us with the divine order of the cosmos. With Saturn in Sagittarius we are prompted to find a balance between outer and inner, expansion and contraction, chaos and order. There’s no need to force this balance; it will happen of its own accord if we allow it. Just let go, release your need to control the process and enjoy watching yourself grow.

Depending on its placement by house, I think whenever saturn transits a benefic natal planet, such as jupiter, venus or even mars sometimes, the impact is more strongly felt than when it transits other planets like moon. I have jupiter and mars in my 6th house sagg, and since saturn started knocking from late september, there has been a constant feeling of impending doom. And now , there is a very frustrating delay that is seriously affecting me at my place of work.

That’s an interesting thought Kadiri. As you are probably aware the impact of a transiting planet has a lot to do with how the natal planet is aspected in the natal chart. When Saturn passes over a planet he triggers these aspects and the life lessons they represent. Of course if the aspects are tense these lessons will be more difficult than if the aspects are harmonious.
I’ve got natal saturn square natal mars.
This is a powerful indicator for frustrations and restrictions but, why is it now as saturn transits my natal mars that everything has suddenly come to a halt. I was expecting the saturn entrance into sagg(natal mars) to neutralize the natal square effect but alas!. I’ve never felt this frustrated.
Unfortunately transiting Saturn sitting on natal Mars and squaring its own position only intensifies the natal square! I’m experiencing a similar placing with transiting Pluto on my natal Venus square natal Pluto. In my experience surrendering to the limits/restriction and in my case long periods of waiting has been the best way to ride this out. Letting go and accepting that the square has something to teach has actually opened my eyes to other things that are available to me, rather than focusing on the thing I cannot have just yet.
That’s true.
What if I tell u mars transits my natal saturn later this month.
So saturn transits my natal mars and squares its own natal,
And mars transits my natal saturn and squares its own natal.
Haha my Life is amazing!
Thank you though.
I wonder why jupiter’s transit can’t be as strong as saturn’s. Cos right now jupiter is trine my natal mars, midheaven and even jupiter.
The strength of the transiting planet has a lot to do with it’s placement in your natal chart. For example if Saturn is in his rulership, in first house, or well aspected, or there are lots of planets in Capricorn he will be more powerful, and if Jupiter is poorly placed or aspected he will be less powerful. But I’d really have to see your chart to understand the situation.
