How does astrology work ?
Horary chart data: April 24, 2010, at 2:26:31 am EED, in Pitesti, Romania.
Below is the horary chart:
This is definitely a frequently asked question, several answers have been suggested, personally I stick to the hermetic spiritual principle « As above, so below », meaning that astrology is merely an vibratory connection or concordance between what appear to be different aspects of the universe: the stars and planets on the Sky and the overall existence of on the Earth (humans, animals, plants, rocks).
It is from this standpoint of understanding that I can proceed to highlight the meanings of the horary chart.
Astrology, considered as higher knowledge, is a 9th house mater, in Libra, therefore the main significator is Venus.
This sounds like a surprising assignment at the first sight, as Venus is definitely not an intellectual planet, why would it be associated to astrology?
Here are several arguments:
Venus is astronomically the sister planet of the Earth
Venus' orbit on the sky is associated to the golden ratio, which is also associated to the human body
Venus is associated to the Tree of Life from the biblical story of Genesis
Venus can be therefore understood in the context of this chart as a symbol of Man and of overall Creation on Earth. ( as it is not only the humans that are « subject to astrological influences », but also the animals, the plants or the natural Earth phenomena)
In the chart, Venus has lots of aspects with other planets, which highlight several important features of astrology.
First off, Venus applies by sextile to Uranus and by trine to Saturn, which are in mutually applying opposition.
Uranus is mythologically associated to the Sky (Ouranos is Greek for « sky »), Saturn is the natural ruler of Time, their opposition in mutable signs can therefore represent the dynamics of the everchanging sky, or otherwise put, the motion of planets and stars on the sky.
These changes in the sky are in total tune with events on Earth (nice aspects to Venus), as these 3 planets are all at the same degree (28th), by the law of resonance of the Universe.
On the spiritual level, Venus mediating the opposition between Uranus (significator of the Cosmic Intelligence) and Saturn (significator of Karma) is what defines the specificity of astrology, as a spiritual science that helps people understanding this fine balance of spirituality and determinism. Everything happens for a higher good reason (Uranus), yet one gets what one deserves (Saturn).
Venus' placement in its domicile in Taurus (a fixed sign, of earth) and the 4th house (angular house, of origins, but also of endings), is an extremely stable and powerful position, which intensely suggests the idea of destiny, from birth to death.
Venus is also separating from squares with Neptune and Lilith (at 22 Aquarius, not shown in the published chart), suggesting initially the fuzzy, imaginary, delusional side of astrology. Astrology has been massively misused as as a prophetic science, although as the challenging aspect to Neptune shows it, it is certainly not a regular science and the standard scientific approach by statistics or other ways being sufficiently proving of the not-scientific nature of astrology. In fact, the square to Neptune shows that the manifestation of astrological elements is variable (some of those being active on spiritual levels) and also the errors that can result from its practice. History shows that astrologers as a group are unable to accurately predict the future events (examples: WW2, 911 etc.), but individual astrologers, gifted also with a sharp intuition, could provide exceptional insights.
Squares are challenging aspects, spiritual tests that are not easily passed. As such, the square to Neptune tells that astrology has its place in a more global spiritual approach, yet attention must be paid to what is said and done, and active spiritual involvement of the individual using astrology is expected.
The applying sequisquare/semisquare between Venus and the lunar nodes axis indicate the subconscious or genetic determinism, with its unconscious choices, and the tensions and frustrations generated by one's destiny or lifepath.
However, at the same time, the applying biquintile between Venus and Pluto points out the opportunities of personal/spiritual transformation of this determinism.
Astrology is therefore shown by this chart to represent not much of an intellectual tool (see Mercury's totally lame condition in the horary chart: peregrine, retrograde and combust), but rather as a path facilitating the conscious understanding of life challenges and helping the integration into the divine plan set forth by God for each and every one of us.
So then, how does astrology work?
To the question: HOW does astrology works, the Uranus-Saturn opposition is the answer.
First off, let's notice as both Saturn and Uranus are rulers of the 1st house (rulers of Capricorn and Aquarius, intercepted in the 1st house).
They are located on the 2nd-8th houses axis, the one that links one's structure to that of others (and by extension that of the universe).
Uranus rules electricity, Saturn rules matter, so there could be a link to the electrical structure of the matter: the atom system is very similar to the planetary system, electrons orbiting around the nucleus are alike the planets orbiting around the Sun. This similarity cannot be th fruit of hazard, so this could be the answer: Uranus in Pisces and the 2nd house (inner ultimate structure of man, of electric nature) and Saturn in Virgo and the 8th house (the outer gravitation-based planetary system, of material nature, perfectly ordered and timely, as all orbits characteristics are mathematically determined) may hold some hidden connection.
Looking to other aspects, Saturn rules structure, boundings, Uranus rules chaos and breakups. The opposition of these principles on the strucural axis reminds of the brownian movement of molecules, a chaotic movement within the material structure (free movements in liquids and gases, vibrations in solids bodies). It'd be interesting to study the potential relationship between astrological factors and this brownian movement, as a link may be found.
